In the ancient Daoist accounts of the creation it is mentioned that before
a being incarnates it makes an agreement with the Creation as to the
purpose for its coming into life.
The agreement consists in that the Creation will provide all the necessary
conditions for that being to carry out its purpose. The individual agrees
to fulfill its purpose by working with whatever conditions the Creation
provides. This process is named “fulfilling destiny”.
So that the incarnating being does not
forget or gets lost in fulfilling destiny after taking birth, the Creation
places a tiny seed of itself within the heart center of each being which
comes into form either in the physical or subtle dimensions. This includes
all animals, plants, humans and spirits.
The seed of light at the heart center becomes the compass pointing the
way where we are supposed to go to fulfill destiny. This tiny seed of
the Creation is the Inner Guide or Inner Teacher or the Self as Carl
Jung named it. Its sole purpose is to help us fulfill destiny by not
losing the way.
The ancient alchemists, wisely observed that, “within everything
created is the seed of its own perfection”. The Inner Guide is
not only the spiritual compass, but also the sample of perfection within
everyone.
The Inner Teacher function speaks through dreams when we sleep, communicates
through intuition, coincidence and situations that are designed to help
us grow and find the way to fulfill destiny.
The great psychologist Carl Jung wisely observed that the Self/Inner
Guide is the one administering the process of self development. Everything
that happens to us, in one way or another is part of the design of the
Inner Guide in helping us find the way.
The Inner Guide is a function of higher consciousness in contrast to
the ego which is designed to be the helper of the Inner Guide. When
the individual begins to neglect the messages of the Inner Guide through
dreams, intuition and specific situations in life, the ego turns negative
and becomes the function directing our day to day living.
The problem with the ego is that it is
a function which comes into being when we are born and has available
only the conscious information we have accumulated from birth until
the present moment. It knows nothing of the contents of the unconscious,
nothing of previous incarnation. A lot of the acquired information of
the ego is obsolete, incomplete or plain erroneous, therefore it is
not capable of administering the process of self development.
One characteristic of the present time is that many people actively
engaged in the process of self development are ignorant of the existence
of a higher consciousness in charge of the process of self development,
and rely exclusively on the limited ego as guide.
Recognizing a higher authority than the limited ego is an essential
first step in the journey of self development. The I Ching, which is
an ancient guide to the process of personal development, right in the
first hexagram advises to, “go see the great man” for counsel.
The great man is no other than a higher consciousness beyond the limited
reach of the ego.
As we lose conscious contact with the Inner Guide, we have to improvise
our lives based on the limited information of the ego. The risk of losing
the way becomes great. As we lose our way in life and fulfilling destiny
becomes more difficult, the Inner Guide gives self-correcting measures
to regain our direction. If the advice is consistently neglected, then,
in the ancient view of medicine, the seeds of illness are planted and
it is a matter of time that symptoms appear. Illness is a mechanism
to help the individual readjust its direction in life and ultimately
fulfill destiny by becoming fully conscious of the seed of perfection
in the center of the heart.
The seed of perfection within each one is the factor unifying the creation.
When we recognize that there is a seed of higher consciousness within
each one, we begin to operate from the heart center, and instead of
perceiving separation and division we begin to perceive unity behind
the appearances. The negative emotions, which are based on the sense
of separation, begin to lessen and we begin to empower, through the
heart center, the opening of the wisdom eye in the crystal room.
The Inner Guide is a wisdom function, and its ultimate purpose is the
fulfillment of the agreement made with the Creation of realizing the
oneness that is the most intrinsic nature in the universe of appearances.
In this class we are going to focus on
awakening the Inner Guide function through meditations, mantra and clarity
of purpose in our lives.
